What "wash and fold" means
You hand over a bag. The shop weighs it, washes it, dries it and folds it. You pay by weight, not by item. It does not include ironing unless you ask for it and pay the ironing rate.
At most shops the bag is sorted by colour before washing. Ask whether your clothes are washed on their own or with other customers' clothes.
A few days of holiday clothes for one person, such as T-shirts, shorts and underwear, is usually 2-3 kg. See how many clothes fit in 1 kg for a weight table.
Using a laundromat in Bangkok
Self-service laundromats are common in residential sois and near condos.
- Dryers can be hot. Check care labels on sportswear.
- You wait, or come back. Clothes left in a machine may be moved.
- Nobody folds for you.
If you do not have the time, a wash and fold shop costs more but you drop the bag and leave.
Hotel laundry and when it makes sense
Hotel laundry is priced per piece, so light items like socks each add a line to the bill. Express service often costs extra, and some hotels add service charge and VAT. Check the list in your room. It is the only reliable price for your hotel.
It still makes sense for a suit or dress that needs dry cleaning, or one shirt you need pressed for a meeting tomorrow. For a full bag of everyday clothes, a per-kg shop is cheaper. There is a worked example in our hotel laundry vs per-kg cost guide.
Before you hand over your laundry
- Take a photo of your clothes. Count the items.
- Point out stains and anything delicate.
- Confirm the price per kg and the minimum weight.
- Confirm the return time, in writing if you have a flight.
- Keep leather, suede, fur and dry-clean-only items out of the bag.
- Rainy season (roughly May to October) means slower drying for shoes and heavy items.
Same-day laundry in Bangkok
Many wash and fold shops offer same day, but almost always with a morning cut-off and a higher per-kg rate. Ask two things before you hand over the bag, the latest drop-off time and the ready time. Miss the cut-off and it becomes next-day.
